The White Desert Foundation
Building on two decades of White Desert’s unparalleled experience of operating with a very small footprint the pristine wilderness of Antarctica, this newly established Foundation is committed to tackling climate change on multiple fronts. We are primarily focused on advancing cutting-edge science behind Blue Carbon initiatives, while utilising our extensive infrastructure to support pioneering scientists studying climate change in Antarctica.
Though much of this research is ground breaking, there are countless opportunities to help and champion these innovators. The concept of impact in Antarctica and climate change largely centres around reducing carbon emissions and finding ways to neutralise the carbon already released into the atmosphere.
With your support, we can drive this transformative work forward.
The Foundation is committed to these key initiatives:
1. Advancing Climate Change Research in Antarctica
Innovative science investigating climate change in Antarctica. Utilising White
Desert’s extensive infrastructure, we are offering logistical support to these
pioneers.
2. Investing in cutting-edge Blue Carbon
Projects
“Species like seagrass may sequester carbon up to 35 times more effectively than rainforests.”
The ocean is the world’s biggest carbon sink. We are supporting cutting-edge marine science and Blue Carbon projects dedicated to habitat and ecosystem restoration.
3. Education for Global Change
“Saving our planet is no longer a scientific challenge. It’s a communication challenge.” Sir David Attenborough.
We are creating an education program that champions Antarctica and global environmental stewardship.
Patrick Woodhead White Desert CEO
“It is impossible to operate in Antarctica without being absorbed by the conversation around climate change. While we have been offsetting our carbon emissions since 2007 and were the first to use Sustainable Aviation Fuel in Antarctica, we believe we must maintain a mindset of perpetual innovation and do more.”
